An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel Movie Poster (measures 46 1/2" x 62 3/4"; known as a 'grande' poster in France) (Learn More) The Mark of Zorro, the 1940 Rouben Mamoulian south-of-the-border masked hero romantic action adventure thriller ("The jagged mark of his sword struck terror to every heart - but one!"; "Who was the bold masked adventurer whose mocking laughter left terror in every heart - but one?"; "Based on the story by Johnston McCulley") starring Tyrone Power Jr. ("in the most famous of all screen roles"; in the title role as Zorro/Don Diego Vega), Linda Darnell (just 16 years old during filming!), Basil Rathbone, Gale Sondergaard, Eugene Pallette, Montagu Love, J. Edward Bromberg, Robert Lowery, Chris-Pin Martin, and Janet Beecher NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Constantin Belinsky Important Added Info: Note that this French one-panel measures 46 1/2" x 62 3/4". Condition: good. The poster had separation in the top 7" of the vertical foldline and a 12" tear 1 1/2" to the right of that extending down through Zorro's right eye. There was some tiny paper loss along both of these areas. There were many creases and tears in the top left of the poster and the red background area and a lesser number of creases, tears, and smudges in the solid black areas of Zorro's cape at the top of the poster. There was tiny paper loss at many crossfolds and many creases, smudges, and tiny tears on several foldlines. There were some small dot stains in the bottom right white background area and some faint stains in the bottom credits area. There were many creases, pinholes, tears, and tiny areas of paper loss across the top and bottom borders. The poster was backed many years ago on a thin linen, which has rippled in several areas. If I owned this great poster, I would surely immediately have it re-linenbacked. After proper backing, with touch up of its many minor defects, the poster would look great, but there will be a fair amount of paint restoration scattered throughout the poster, but lots of tiny areas of restoration, and I DON'T believe the poster will end up with a heavily restored "dipped in paint" look, and I think it will display great on anyone's wall! This poster was linenbacked, and it had significant defects which were only somewhat repaired during the linenbacking process, or were not repaired at all (we describe both the defects as well as the quality of the restoration below, and based on those comments, you can easily determine which type of poster it is). You should also look at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!).
