A Woman - Trying to escape her future!" "'Don't try to get rid of me for another woman... ...it won't work!"'; based on the novel 'Build My Gallows High' by Daniel Mainwaring; a great story of a private investigator who is hired by a gangster to find his missing mistress, and he does so, but then he falls for her, and starts a romance with her, even though he knows he is likely signing his death warrant) starring Robert Mitchum, Jane Greer, Kirk Douglas (in his third movie role!), Rhonda Fleming, Richard Webb, Steve Brodie, Dickie Moore, Virginia Huston, Paul Valentine, and Ken Niles NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned three examples of this great scene card, and the last one sold for $215 in "good to very good" condition! What is paperbacking? This means the lobby card was backed onto a very light paper backing (acid-free), that keeps the "feel" of the lobby card similar to that of the original lobby card. Some restorers prefer to paperback lobby cards on to a heavy backing, while others prefer to use a very lightweight backing. The advantage of a lightweight backing is that the card still "feels" like a regular lobby card, but a heavier backing makes restoration easier to do and less noticeable. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, someone trimmed the image area to 8" x 10", so it included a bit of the top of the title and the right of Mitchum's credit, and the right of the art of Mitchum's head in the left border area. It appears that someone found a "dead" card (or one with a much lesser image) and then "married" the two cards together. There were a few pinholes, tears, and small stains around the edges. The restorer did a pretty good job in blending the two cards, but you can clearly see where the 8" x 10" portion was joined to the rest of the card when you look at it close up, so bear this in mind before bidding.
