Artist: Drew Struzan & Charles White Important Added Info: Note that this poster was first printed in 1978 while Star Wars was still in continuous first release. Star Wars stayed in theaters for an incredibly long time, and Lucasfilm decided to "refresh" it's marketing with a new poster. In the book Star Wars Art: Posters, Drew Struzan reveals that "Charles White III was commissioned to create this new poster. Charlie had seen my work and decided to call me in as a collaborator. I painted the portraits, while he painted the hardware. Lucasfilm liked the artwork, but there was not enough space left open for the "billing block". Necessity being the mother of invention, we decided to enlarge the dimensions of the art to increase the open space and give the work an early-twentieth-century, wild-posted [wilding] circus-style look. So it came about that it took the two of us to paint what would come to be known as the "Circus" poster for its throwback style." This means that the "defects" in the poster are intentional, and are part of the image, and are not actual defects! Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded, but it was likely compressed while rolled at one time, and there is an approximately 21" partial horizontal crease at center right, a 7" partial horizontal crease at left (in Ford's image) and a 5" partial horizontal crease at upper left (in Hamill's hair). There is a tear at upper center that has been repaired with tape from the back. There are a few smaller and lighter creases scattered in various areas that are not very noticeable or distracting when the poster is displayed. Learn More about condition grades
