An Original Vintage Linenbacked Stage Play Poster (measures 28 1/4" x 41 1/2" [72 x 105 cm]) (Learn More)

Mutt and Jeff's Honeymoon, the 1920s musical comedy stage play production (based on the classic newspaper comic strip by Bud Fisher; "Bud Fisher's original comedy cartoon"). We could not find much information on this production, but newspaper ads start in the early 1920s and last to at least 1929. It's possible that this production was first produced in the 1910s under the title "Mutt and Jeff Divorced", but we are not certain. Note that Mutt and Jeff (a pair of loser best friends, one tall and one short) was one of the most popular newspaper cartoon strips ever, beginning in 1908, and they were brought to the movies in 1911, and over the next 15 years, Bud Fisher created an astonishing 347 cartoons starring the duo. Note that Bud Fisher was one of the rare successful creators who was also an excellent business man, and he gained control of the newspaper strip, and when the first cartoons were adapted in 1911, he retained sole ownership of those as well, and his various enterprises made him an extremely wealthy man! If anyone knows more about this stage play or this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was likely never folded, but it had horizontal tears running across the center of the image, going through the figures, with some tiny paper loss on parts of the tears. It had tears and paper loss in the top right, affecting the words in that area. It had other tears and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
