Stemmle"; about a beautiful jewel thief in Paris who steals a pearl necklace, and who hides them in the luggage of an American engineer going to Spain, and then she must retrieve them from him, and in doing so, she falls in love with him) starring Marlene Dietrich, Gary Cooper, John Halliday, William Frawley, Ernest Cossart, Akim Tamiroff, Alan Mowbray, and Zeffie Tilbury (who had the part of her life at the end of her career, as Grandma in "The Grapes of Wrath") NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this one-sheet, and that was 30 years ago, when it sold for $7,480! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tears and areas of paper loss scattered down the vertical fold between the top crossfold and the bottom of the poster, including in Dietrich's forehead, eye, and cheek. It had some tears and paper loss on the rest of the folds, with a 2" vertical tear between the "s" and "i" of "Desire". It had some tears and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed by a talented restorer, who did a good job at restoring and concealing the above defects, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Note that the restorer left a tiny bit of excess linen around all four sides of the poster (they left a small border in order to protect the poster from handling damage, but they did not leave a larger border, to allow it to more easily fit in a frame).
