An Original 1921 (from the first release of this movie in France) Vintage Theatrical Folded French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 47" x 63" [119 x 160 cm]) (Learn More) A Desert Hero, the 1919 Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle silent romantic cowboy western screwball slapstick comedy short (about a western sheriff who has few skills, but somehow everything works out wonderfully for him) starring Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle, Al St. John, Molly Malone, Monte Collins, and Jack Coogan Sr. Note that Buster Keaton performed as a stunt man in this movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Roberty Important Added Info: Note that for unknown reasons, the French distributor split this film into two parts, with part one titled Fatty Sheriff and part two Le Salut de Fatty. This comes from a translation of a French movie magazine. We were unsure of this as the poster for Le Salut de Fatty shows Arbuckle in a boxing match which did not seem to match a cowboy western story, but U.S. newspaper articles confirm that the movie "culminates in a fight with boxing gloves instead of revolvers"! Le Salut de Fatty is currently being offered in a separate auction. Also, note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II French poster, which we have never auctioned before (and of course, ANY first release Fatty Arbuckle posters from any country are incredibly rare)! Virtually no French posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II (mostly only pre-war heavy stock lobby cards, and even those are rare). Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! Condition: fair to good. The poster is fragile and it has pinholes, tears and paper loss around the edges (with paper loss in the top left blank corner) and some tears and paper loss on parts of the folds. It is otherwise "mostly all there" and after proper restoration the poster will display well, but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
