The Crying Game, the classic 1992 Neil Jordan (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) English/Japanese romantic IRA (Irish Republic Army) kidnap and murder melodrama ("Sex. Murder. Betrayal. In Neil Jordan's new thriller, nothing is what it seems to be."; "...play it at your own risk."; "Desire is a danger zone"; "From the director of 'Mona Lisa'"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about an IRA terrorist who kidnaps a British soldier who tells him about this girl and then...) starring Stephen Rea (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Miranda Richardson, Jaye Davidson (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; "as Dil"; in one of only two acting roles), Forest Whitaker ("as Jody"), Adrian Dunbar, Breffni McKenna, and Birdy Sweeney. Note that this movie had a "twist" within it that caught most viewers by surprise, and at the time of its release, critics went to great lengths to not reveal that surprise. But it is a really excellent movie whether or not you are aware of that, with great performances, especially by Stephen Rea, Jaye Davidson, and Forest Whitaker!
