An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style D One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

The Emperor's Candlesticks, the 1937 George Fitzmaurice pre-World War I (WWI) romantic spy espionage thriller ("William Powell and Luise Rainer together again!"; "A smile on her lips... and his death warrant in her hands!"; "Based on the book by Baroness Emmuska Orczy"; about a pair of spies who work for opposing countries, and they fall in love) starring William Powell, Luise Rainer, Robert Young, Maureen O'Sullivan, Frank Morgan, Henry Stephenson, and Ian Wolfe. Note that the "together again!" tagline refers to the fact that Rainer and Powell had previously starred together in Escapade and The Great Ziegfeld.

Important Added Info: Note that first release posters from this William Powell/Luise Rainer movie are incredibly rare. In all our years of auctioning, we have only auctioned an insert, a half-sheet, and the style C one-sheet, one time each. Now we have been consigned the style D one-sheet, which we have never auctioned before!

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had small paper loss at the bottom crossfold and tiny paper loss at the other two crossfolds. It had some small tears and some paper loss scattered on parts of some folds and around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
