An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Black Oxen, the 1924 Frank Lloyd silent romantic love triangle fantasy eternal youth melodrama ("A society woman of fifty miraculously regains youthful beauty - tumultuous love follows"; "Hear the Song ---- See the Picture"; "'When Romance Wakes' theme song of 'Black Oxen'"; "A beautiful love ballad"; "'The years like great black oxen tread the world and God the herdsman goads them on behind.' W.B. Yeats"; "Frank Lloyd's sensational photoplay"; an odd story about a 50 year old woman who comes up with a "fountain of youth" that makes her seem like a young woman again; a young man wants to marry her, but one of her past boyfriends convinces her to let him go) starring Corinne Griffith, Conway Tearle, Tom Ricketts, Tom Guise, Alan Hale Sr., and Clara Bow (very young in this role!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. This poster was linenbacked, but it was either NOT linenbacked by a very talented restorer, OR it was linenbacked many years ago, and has received rough handling over the years, OR it had fairly significant defects that were not restorated at all. If it was restored, you can clearly see signs of the restoration even from a distance. This is a poster that would greatly benefit from additional professional restoration. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had considerable paper loss in the left 2/3 of the top border and down the top 6" of the left border (mostly in the blank borders, but extending into the image). There was a 10" tear in the background area to the right of the title and two long tears going through the face of Conway Tearle at bottom right. There was much paper loss in the left yellow background area down the left side of the poster. The poster was well linenbacked. From any distance away, you don't really notice the restored areas (but they can be seen when looking at the poster up close). It is important to note that the poster is lifting from the linen at the bottom right. Any restorer could re-glue the poster so that this was corrected, but it should be done, or the poster is liable to receive further damage. Learn More about condition grades
