An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) New York, the 1927 Luther Reed silent Manhattan New York City gangster romantic triangle crime melodrama ("Story by Barbara Chambers and Becky Gardiner"; about a New York gangster whose girlfriend visits his best friend, who was her childhood sweetheart, and he is about to get married, but the gangster misunderstands and thinks that his girlfriend is cheating on him, and he kills her, and his best friend is charged with the murder, and he keeps silent, but another friend of theirs ultimately reveals the truth; this is very similar in plot to both "Manhattan Melodrama" and "Once Upon a Time In America", and it seems likely that both movies drew off of this one, and oddly, in this movie, William Powell plays the gangster, but in "Manhattan Melodrama", he "switches sides", and plays the good guy!) starring Ricardo Cortez, Lois Wilson, Estelle Taylor, William Powell, and Norman Trevor. Note that one would think that with many hundreds of movies set in New York, there would have been many movies with the title "New York". Yet only this movie, and one obscure 1916 movie have this name! This movie was one of the last major silent movies, but is largely forgotten today. One wonders when some movie maker will realize how long it has been since this title was used, and will make the first sound movie with the title "New York" (and the same plot could certainly be re-used)! Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned four scene cards from this movie, but we have never before auctioned this title card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good.
