An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 13" x 17" [33 x 43 cm]) (Learn More) Phantom of the Opera, the 1943 Arthur Lubin Universal musical horror thriller ("The Screen's Classic of Terror!"; based on the classic novel by Gaston Leroux, and a remake of the silent classic featuring Lon Chaney Sr.) starring Nelson Eddy, Susanna Foster (as Christine), Claude Rains (in the title role as Erique Claudin, the Phantom of the Opera), Edgar Barrier (as Raoul), Leo Carrillo, Jane Farrar, J. Edward Bromberg, Fritz Feld, Hume Cronyn, and "a cast of thousands"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this window card, and that was 12 years ago! The card was found in the back of a frame where it had been used as a backing board for a picture (many framers in the 1920s and 1930s would use window cards for this purpose, and they would trim them to the size of the frame, not caring that they were cutting into the image!). In this case, the trimming, which was to 13" x 17", affects the right and top of the card, and you can see what is missing by looking at our image. Since all of the title, image, and credits remain, I would think many people could display this card as is, but please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored. Condition: fair to good. 1" was trimmed from the right of the card and 5" was trimmed from the top, but of course, much of that was originally a blank top (see above). The image and text are not that affected, which is a big plus. There are some defects around the edges (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
