An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More)

Howard Hawks' The Thing From Another World!, the classic 1951 Christian Nyby science fiction (sci-fi) monster horror thriller ("The Thing from another world!"; "How did it get here?"; "Natural or Supernatural?"; "Howard Hawks' Astounding Movie"; "Look out... it's The Thing from another world!"; produced by Howard Hawks; based on the story by John W. Campbell, best known for being the editor of Astounding Science Fiction!) starring Kenneth Tobey, Margaret Sheridan, Robert Cornthwaite, Dewey Martin, Paul Frees, John Dierkes, Eduard Franz, James Arness (in the title role as The Thing From Another World!), William Self, and Billy Curtis (as the miniature "Thing" in the final sequence when the monster appears to shrink). Note that this movie had a very unusual poster campaign, where the letters of the title were made to look like body parts ("blood and guts"!), with wires coming off of the letters. Almost all the posters had this basic design. The pressbook calls all of them "teaser" posters and says "This display material was designed for an advance teaser campaign, as well as for general use". So obviously, they intentionally wanted to have the posters not reveal much about the movie, as a way to get people interested and get them into the theater.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this poster was created oddly, with a small piece at the top (that contains the top tagline), and a slightly larger piece at the bottom (everything below the title). Apparently, they wanted the title printed on a single sheet! This odd printing method has often resulted in the top small piece getting lost, and it is very hard to find a complete example of this poster! We had previously auctioned 3 incomplete examples of this poster, and in November of 2015, we finally were consigned our very first complete example. But that poster had many condition issues, and was only in "fair" condition, and yet it still auctioned for $2,900. Now, we have been consigned another complete three-sheet, but this one is in "very good" condition (see below).

Condition: very good. All three pieces were attached to a wall with thumb tacks around the edges, and they left tiny tack holes around the edges of all three pieces. Someone put some small pieces of tape on the back of several of the tack holes and on the back of one of the crossfolds . The small bottom piece had a 4" tear that went through the left of the "W" of "HAWKS" and into the green background below it, and there is brown tape on the back of that tear. There was also a 1/2" tear and smaller tears to the right of that above the apostrophe, and there is a piece of masking tape on the back of that. Other than the above tack holes, the two tears, and the small tape repairs, the poster is in pretty nice condition. After a simple linenbacking, it will look fantastic!
