An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 19 1/2" [36 x 50 cm]) (Learn More) The Scarlet Letter, the 1926 Victor Sjostrom silent Puritan Boston Massachusetts historical marriage adultery infidelity melodrama ("Upon her breast the scarlet brand of shame but in her soul a love that nought could quench!"; "From the famous novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne") starring Lillian Gish (as Hester Prynne), Lars Hanson (as Arthur Dimmesdale), Henry B. Walthall (as Roger Prynne), Karl Dane, William H. Tooker, and Joyce Coad (a Swedish child actress who appeared in a dozen movies from 1926 to 1934, and then retired at the age of 17). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that for some of their major movies of the 1920s, studios would make two entirely different window cards. This movie is one of those (another example is "The Gold Rush"). We have previously auctioned two examples of the other style of window card, but this is the first time we have ever auctioned this style of window card (and interestingly, the cards were printed by different litho companies). Other than the two window cards we previously auctioned, we had auctioned the lobby cards and some stills, but no other posters. Note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 14" x 19 1/2" [36 x 50 cm]. Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: good to very good. Part of the top play dates area of the window card was trimmed off, but it was only the area above the theater name, so it displays well as it is (and certainly, some collectors would choose to frame it with the play date area matted over). The card has some nail holes across the top and bottom, and someone put conservation tape on the back of most of them. There are stains in the bottom of the "SH" of "GISH". Otherwise, the card is in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
