An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Captive Wild Woman, the 1943 Edward Dmytryk Universal mad scientist horror thriller ("Shockingly Savage"; a wild movie about a mad scientist who is convinced that animals have a huge amount in common with human beings, and he injects an intelligent female gorilla with a serum he invented, and it turns the gorilla into a beautiful girl, but when she is "aroused", she returns to her original state!) starring Evelyn Ankers, John Carradine, Milburn Stone, Lloyd Corrigan, Martha MacVicar, Vince Barnett, Acquanetta (billed as "Introducing Acquanetta as the Gorilla Girl"), Fay Helm, and Ray Corrigan (uncredited as "Cheela" the ape). Note that this movie has one of the most sought after and wonderful images of the 1940s (with a gorilla holding a beautiful girl), but it really doesn't in any way give an idea of what the movie is actually about! Also note that Clyde Beatty staged the wild animal scenes in this movie, and footage was used that showed the real Beatty, so character actor Milburn Stone was cast in a major part, because he resembled Beatty enough that the stock footage would pass! Acquanetta never speaks during the movie (not surprising, since her character is actually a gorilla transformed into a human)! Finally, note that Crash Corrigan made a REALLY wise investment in the 1930s, when he bought a "gorilla suit". In many of the movies in the 1940s where there is a fake gorilla, it is played by Crash Corrigan, no doubt because he could supply the suit! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a really desirable poster, thanks to its classic campy image. The last time we auctioned it was four years ago, when it sold for $3,427! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the top two crossfolds and small paper loss at the bottom crossfold, with some small tears and tiny paper loss in the bottom horizontal fold and a few tiny tears and tiny bits of surface paper loss on parts of the other folds. There was a 2" vertical tear in the ape's right shoulder. There was paper loss in the middle of the left border that extended 3" into the red background and affected just the very top left of the "W" of "WILD". There were some tiny tears and tiny paper loss in the rest of the borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. A really talented restorer did a wonderful job backing the poster and it displays really well (they did an especially fine job on replacing the paper loss in the middle of the left border). I feel certain the new owner will be happy to display this poster on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
