An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style B One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Broadminded (Broad Minded), the 1931 Mervyn LeRoy romantic love triangle screwball comedy ("Story by Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby"; "Half Man Half Mouth!"; about a rich young man who is a playboy, and his father sends him to California to straighten out, but he romances every woman he meets along the way, and when he gets to California, he proposes to a woman, only to have his jilted sweetheart show up) starring Joe E. Brown, Ona Munson, William Collier Jr., Marjorie White, Holmes Herbert, Margaret Livingston, Thelma Todd, Bela Lugosi, and Grayce Hampton. Note that this was one of four movies Bela Lugosi made in 1931 after he made Dracula, but those four movies were finished before Dracula became a major hit, and so he is seventh billed, and not mentioned or shown on any of the advertising, except for a few stills and perhaps a lobby card or two. This poster was linenbacked, but it was either NOT linenbacked by a very talented restorer, OR it was linenbacked many years ago, and has received rough handling over the years, OR it had fairly significant defects that were not well restored. If it was restored, you can clearly see signs of the restoration even from a distance. This is a poster that would surely benefit from additional professional restoration. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had areas of paper loss all around tehe dges of the image extending into the edges of the image. There was a quarter-sized area of paper loss at the top crossfold and smaller paper loss at the bottom two crossfolds. There were many creases throughout the poster. It appears that something was done incorrectly during the linenbacking process, because the poster has rippled horizontally in many areas (perhaps it was rolled too tightly). I do not know if this could be corrected without re-backing the poster, or if it needs to be re-backed to correct it. The ripples throughout the poster are quite noticeable.
