An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style C One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Back Street, the 1941 Robert Stevenson romantic melodrama (based on the novel by Fannie Hurst; about a woman who intends to marry a man, but circumstances prevent that from happening, and they separate for many years, and reunite when the man is married, but the woman has a "back street" affair with him) starring Charles Boyer, Margaret Sullavan, Richard Carlson, Frank McHugh, Tim Holt, Samuel S. Hinds, Esther Dale, and Nell O'Day. Note that this movie was a remake of the 1932 movie of the same name with Irene Dunne and John Boles, and was itself remade in 1961 by producer Ross Hunter, with Susan Hayward and John Gavin. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds, minor wear on the folds, and pinholes around the edges. Someone faintly scratched a thin line across Sullavan's upper lip. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. The scratch in Sullavan's upper lip is not that distracting from a reasonable viewing distance, and certainly, a restorer could touch up that area without re-backing the poster.
