4 Original Vintage Theatrical French Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure from 9" x 10 1/4" [23 x 26 cm] to 10 3/4" x 13 3/4" [27 x 35 cm]) (Learn More)

Der Student von Prag (released in English-speaking countries as "The Student of Prague"), the 1926 (released in the U.S. in 1929) Henrik Galeen German silent Czechoslovakia romantic fantasy soul-selling melodrama (basically a re-telling of the Faust legend; young Conrad Veidt is a poor college student who falls in love with a beautiful noblewoman, and he knows he has no chance, until an old man, who is likely the Devil, offers him a fortune in return for "something from his room", and he discovers what he gave was his "shadow", which means he no longer has a soul!) starring Conrad Veidt, Elizza La Porta, Fritz Alberti, Agnes Eszterhazy, Ferdinand von Alten, and Werner Krauss. Note that this was a remake of a 1913 early silent movie, and it was remade in 1935 in a sound version with Anton Walbrook.
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned a single French lobby card from this movie. Note that we think it is extremely likely these are from the first French release of this movie, but there is a very slight chance they are from a re-release (we don't think this, because the re-release would have been after World War II, and we don't believe there were French lobby cards like these made after World War II). Also note that very early French lobby cards were like later Swiss lobby cards, where they would have a heavy stock cardboard background with information about the movie and a blank rectangular area in the center where they would glue a different still to each stock background, thus creating a set of lobby cards for less money than having all different cards would cost. ANY French lobby cards from before World War II are incredibly rare! Also note that these French lobby cards range in size from 9" x 10 1/4" to 10 3/4" x 13 3/4"

Condition: fair to good. One of the cards (the vertical one) had portions of its blank borders trimmed off and one of the horizontal ones had three borders trimmed off, including the title at the top. One of the other two has water staining in the bottom left and the other has water staining scattered down the right edge. All have varying amounts of scuffing on the glued on images.
