An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) Murder on Lenox Avenue, the 1941 Arthur Dreifuss New York black African American murder crime thriller musical(!) ("It exposes Rackets without fear or favor with an 100% colored all star cast!"; "Lyrics and Music by Donald Heywood") starring Mamie Smith, Alec Lovejoy, Norman Astwood, Gus Smith, Alberta Perkins, Edna Mae Harris, and an "All Star Colored Cast" If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare and unusual poster! We have previously auctioned one-sheets from this movie, but never before a three-sheet. The movie was distributed through the "states rights system", where companies would purchase the rights to a movie for a specific state, so there could be different posters from state to state. The one-sheets we have seen do not have any studio on them, and while they may be from 1941, we suspect that they could possibly be from later in the 1940s. But this three-sheet has both a distributor credited (International Roadshow), and it also has much more detailed images of the stars (and also a printer credited in the bottom border, "Eloquent Press" of New York City), and we believe this poster to surely be from 1941! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds and some tears and small paper on parts of just a few foldlines. It had smudges scattered throughout, with some dot stains in the dress of the girl at bottom. It had pinholes around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed. The person who did the restoration did not want to paint over the background areas, so they mostly left the smudges in the yellow areas alone, and I completely agree with this decision, because it keeps the poster from having a "heavily restored" look, and the smudges are not very distracting, and they help establish that this is an original 1950 poster from this classic comedy.
