An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French Movie Poster (measures 23 1/4" x 31") (Learn More) La Belle et la Bete (released in the U.S. in 1947 as "The Beauty and the Beast"), the classic 1946 Jean Cocteau French romantic fantasy adventure (based on the classic fairy tale by Madame Leprince de Beaumont; about a handsome prince who has a spell put on him that turns him into a beast, and he can't change back unless a beautiful woman loves him as he is!) starring Jean Marais (in a dual role as both la Bete and the Prince), Josette Day (in the title role as Belle), Mila Parely, Nane Germon, Michael Auclair, and Marcel Andre. Note that this movie had wonderful special effects (both by 1946 standards, and even by present day standards) and that it is one of the best loved fantasy movies of all time. In 1991, Walt Disney turned this into an animated feature length musical, and it has since been turned into a Broadway show and a live action movie, but this version still remains the best of all! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a rare "country of origin" poster for this French movie! Also note that the larger sized French posters have artwork that depicts the beast looking different from how he does in the movie. This medium-sized French poster is the only original release French poster that shows the beast exactly as he appears in the movie! Finally, note that this French poster measures 23 1/4" x 31" and is linenbacked. Condition: very good. The poster was folded once in each direction. It had a piece of tape on the back of the center of the horizontal foldline in the part of Belle's face that is right by her hair, and the poster was slightly discolored in this area. There were small tears by this piece of tape, and some separation, tiny tears, and very tiny paper loss on both foldlines. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was really well backed, and it looks fantastic! The defects along the foldlines were not that significant, but in the hands of a lesser restorer, it might have been noticeable after restoration, and in fact, they are truly virtually invisible, and yet there is the absolute minimum amount of paint restoration on the poster. I can't imagine a collector who would not be happy to display this great poster on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
