A 1965 Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked Italian One-Panel (known in Italy as a "2 Fogli") Movie Poster (1p; measures 39" x 55" [99 x 140 cm]) (Learn More) Per un Pugno di Dollari (released in the U.S. in 1967 as "A Fistful of Dollars"), the classic 1964 Sergio Leone (billed as "Bob Robertson") German/Italian/Spanish spaghetti cowboy western action thriller ("In his own way he is, perhaps, the most dangerous man who ever lived!"; "'A Fistful of Dollars' is the first motion picture of its kind. It won't be the last!"; "He makes no friends - a few enemies - a few dollars - and none of them last!"; "This is the man with no name. Danger fits him like a tight black leather glove!"; "Introducing the man with no name! He's going to trigger a whole new style in adventure. This man with no name is played by Clint Eastwood."; "This short cigar belongs to the man with no name. This long gun belongs to the man with no name. This poncho belongs to the man with no name."; with music by Ennio Morricone; based on the classic Japanese Akira Kurosawa film "Yojimbo") starring Clint Eastwood, Gian Maria Volonte (billed on some items as "Johnny Wels"), Marianne Koch, Wolfgang Lukschy (billed as "W. Lukschy"), Sieghardt Rupp (billed as "S. Rupp"), Joe Edger, Margarita Lozano, and Jose Calvo NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Michelangelo Papuzza Important Added Info: Note that dating the first Italian poster releases of the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns is very difficult. There is a one-panel poster that has the same image as this, and also has an UNDIS logo at the top, but it has "1964" by the printer information, and that is believed to be the very first Italian one-panel with this image (this 1964 poster is BEYOND RARE, and we have never auctioned it). There is another one-panel poster with the same image as this, and that one does not have an UNDIS logo, and it has information from the same printer with "1966" by it, and that is from the 1966 re-release (and there is a different version that lacks the date, but is believed to be also from 1966). THIS poster has the same printer as both the 1964 poster and 1966 posters, but it is dated 1965, and it DOES have an UNDIS logo, and is from a 1965 re-release (apparently this movie was so popular that it received full scale releases in 1964, 1965, AND 1966). We got this information from looking at the three posters closely and from consulting with the leading Clint Eastwood experts. Please do not bid on this poster thinking it is from the very first 1964 release in Italy, because it is from the 1965 re-release. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had many tape stains around the edges where there had been tears and pinholes. There were also tape stains on parts of many folds, where there were separations and tears. There were a few tape stains that were not in folds. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. Someone had the poster backed exactly as it is, so all the stains are very evident. One could leave it as it is, or have a restorer touch it up without re-backing it or remove it from the linen and have it re-backed. Please bear this in mind before bidding on this poster!
