(Learn More) Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, the classic 1958 Alfred Hitchcock San Francisco California suspense obsessive love crime mystery thriller ("Alfred Hitchcock's Masterpiece"; "Based upon the novel D'Entre Les Morts by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac"; "Music by Bernard Herrmann"; about a man with a fear of heights who is caught up in a murder, or is he?, and he meets a woman who looks very similar to the "dead girl", and he becomes obsessed with solving the mystery) starring James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart), Kim Novak (in a dual role), Barbara Bel Geddes, Tom Helmore, and Henry Jones. Note that John Whitney Sr. (who did the spiral title sequence for the movie) also did the spiral art for the posters from this movie, which was utilized by the poster artist Saul Bass. Also note that Alfred Hitchcock did not make a final decision on what to name this movie until the last minute! At various times, it had working titles of Darkling I Listen, Fear and Trembling, From Among the Dead, and Illicit Darkening. Many of the early advertising stills don't have a title at all, but say "An Alfred Hitchcock Production". Personally, we think "Vertigo" is a better title than any of those other four! Finally, note that critical acclaim for this movie has consistently risen in the years since it was first released. In fact, in the 2012 "Sight and Sound" poll of top movie critics, Vertigo was declared to be the number one film of all time, over Citizen Kane, and every other masterpiece! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Most collectors don't realize that Saul Bass did many different designs for this classic movie! All look very similar, with the classic swirl, but the two figures are different on many of the posters! Also note that pressbooks were prepared prior to a movie being released. Often, changes would be made in a movie advertising campaign (billing of actors, different images, etc.), and the theaters would print up special supplements that they would send out with the pressbooks that had already been printed. These supplements are very rare, far more rare than the pressbooks themselves! Some pressbooks would have no supplements, some would have one, and some would have several. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Condition: fair, WITH CUTS. Only the front and back covers, the interior covers, and pages 13 and 14 are present (pages 3 through 12 are missing). There is a large "X" on the front cover written in black grease pencil (see our image). There is a cool 6-page supplement that is uncut.
