An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 47 1/4" x 63 1/4" [120 x 161 cm]) (Learn More)

Vor Faelles Ven (released in the U.S. as "Our Mutual Friend"), the 1921 Anders W. Sandberg Danish silent murder mystery melodrama (based on the book 'Our Mutual Friend' by Charles Dickens, which was his last completed novel; the story is perhaps the darkest of all of Dickens' works; the book opens with a man going through the Thames River late at night looking for drowned men, so he can steal their possessions before turning their bodies over to the police; he finds the body of a soon-to-be-wealthy man, who was murdered before he could collect his inheritance, and his fortune goes to a young female heiress, and there is much intrigue, with many characters appearing, some of whom are after the inheritance for themselves) starring Peter Malberg, Aage Fonss, Kate Riise, Peter Fjelstrup, Karen Sandberg Caspersen, Svend Kornbeck, and Kate Riise. Note that this was one of four Charles Dickens adaptations made by Wid Gunning between 1921 and 1925 in Denmark for release in Scandinavian countries. If the unusual first name "Wid" seems familiar, it is because Mr. Gunning started the most famous trade magazine in early Hollywood, "Wid's Daily"! Also note that the opening of the movie is similar to that of "Sunset Blvd.", where the movie opens with a drowned central character!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that in 2009, we were consigned a linenbacked example of this poster (mounted on a thin old linen), and it was in lesser condition, and it auctioned for $390. Now we have been consigned an unbacked example! Note that the French poster artist depicted the opening scene of the book, where the men find a dead body in the river, and the art is very dark, and captures the feeling of the novel quite well!

Condition: fair. The poster is extremely fragile and is completely separated on a part of two folds, which results in a small section being detached from the rest of the poster. It also has darkened on the folds. The poster is in urgent need of expert professional restoration. But the poster is mostly "all there", and after linenbacking by a talented professional, the poster will look fantastic, and it will likely require little paint restoration within the image. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored!
