An Original Vintage Autographed English 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" [9 x 14 cm] Postcard (Learn More) Joseph Schildkraut was an Austrian actor from the 1910s to the 1960s. He was the son of a famous actor, and he began acting in Germany in the 1910s. In 1921, he went to the U.S. and got a role in D.W. Griffith's Orphans of the Storm, which led to major U.S. stardom. He also acted on the stage, but in the early 1930s, he returned to Hollywood, and he seamlessly made the transition from leading man to character actor. Some of his other movies include: The Shop Around the Corner, The Life Of Emile Zola (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), and The Diary of Anne Frank. He passed away in 1964 at the age of 67. Important Added Info: Note that this postcard has been personally autographed (signed) by Joseph Schildkraut! Note that eMoviePoster.com originally auctioned this in 2019, and the person who purchased it has reconsigned it to us now. It is from a remarkable collection of items (mostly postcards and German Ross postcards) from the estate of the late Jan Wahl, who had a great love of silent film, and he collected many items from silent films, including this item. Note that this does not come with a certificate of authenticity, but given the fact that Mr. Wahl purchased this item decades ago, and given that he was an expert in such items, we think it is incredibly likely the signature is authentic. This is a rare opportunity to purchase autographed items from great silent film stars that have a wonderful provenance! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased (although we prefer they do any "authenticating" while the auction is "live" and before they place a bid) and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction.
