An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Style B Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Duck Soup, the classic 1933 Leo McCarey musical political satire screwball comedy (Groucho is named the new ruler of a bankrupt country, Freedonia, and he declares war on a neighboring country, and his brothers Chico and Harpo are incredibly inept spies!) starring the Four Marx Brothers: Groucho Marx (as Rufus T. Firefly), Harpo Marx (as Pinky), Chico Marx (as Chicolini), and Zeppo Marx (as Lt. Bob Roland), and also starring Margaret Dumont, Raquel Torres, and Louis Calhern NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare, and we have never before auctioned this half-sheet, which has a completely different image from all the other posters! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thicker paper backing, it CAN'T be sent rolled (someone could conceivably roll it or try to do so, but we think it would have a strong chance of lessening its condition, so we will only send it in a very large flat package that measures approximately 24" x 30", unless the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage). UPDATED 12/23/2020: Note that we have added more details to the Condition Description (the Condition Grade remains unchanged). What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was never folded. It had some pinholes and stains scattered around the edges, with some scattered throughout the image, including in the stars' faces. There were also some small areas of paper loss scattered in the image, including small amounts in the stars faces, and a larger amount in Harpo's hair. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to paperbacking. A talented restorer paperbacked the poster and did a nice job, because while you can see signs of the defects, it will display well on the new owner's wall, although you can clearly see that most of the white background areas were painted over. However, the new owner could, of course, choose to have additional restoration performed. In addition, the poster was framed, and when it was removed from the frame, the person who did that caused creases in the left 3" of the top blank border and one in the middle left of the top blank border (see our image). Obviously, one would prefer a better example of this poster, but that might take a lifetime of waiting, and this one will display well on the new owner's wall! Learn More about condition grades
