Theatrical Unfolded Original Style A Half-Sheet (measures 22x28) (Learn More)

Java Head, the 1923 George Melford silent interracial romance romantic love triangle melodrama ("Adapted by Waldemar Young from the novel by Joseph Hergesheimer"; the sort of movie they don't make anymore, with good reason; an American man in Java is forced to marry a princess to keep him from being killed, and he takes her back to New England, and he tries to be faithful to her, but he really loves his American girlfriend, and his Asian wife commits suicide so he can be with his true love) starring Leatrice Joy, Jacqueline Logan, Raymond Hatton, George Fawcett, and Albert Roscoe. Note that Paramount was unwilling to cast a real Asian woman in the lead role, so they hired Leatrice Joy, who had been born in Louisiana, and who in no way appeared Asian! Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this is a hand-colored half-sheet. In the days of silent film prior to the invention of good quality full-color printing, studios would have half-sheets printed in black and white and then amazingly would hire women to hand-color the half-sheets one at a time (apparently labor was very cheap at the time)! So, each half-sheet is colored slightly differently, and the coloring is never a perfect match.

Condition: fine. "FAMOUS-THEARE, MONDAY-TUESDAY JANUARY 21 AND 22, MATINEE MONDAY 4 P.M." is painted in black in the right center yellow background area. There is a tiny crease in the bottom left corner and a very tiny piece out of the upper right blank border. N
