An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Detour, the classic 1945 Edgar Ulmer crime film noir ("He went searching for love... but Fate forced a Detour to Revelry... Violence... Mystery!"; perhaps the best low budget film ever, about a man who is down on his luck and hitchhikes a ride, and he is led on a road to disaster, with a particularly unpleasant female companion; if you haven't seen this movie and you like film noir, it is a must!) starring Tom Neal (best remembered as the star of this film), Ann Savage, Claudia Drake, Edmund MacDonald, Tim Ryan, Esther Howard, Roger Clark, and Don Brodie NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this one-sheet from this film noir classic is extremely rare (most likely because not that many theaters played this movie in 1945). We have only auctioned it three times in all our years of auctioning, and the last time was eight years ago, when it sold for $2,721! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had small paper loss and some tears at the crossfolds and also on parts of some folds. There was a jagged tear running from the top of the "O" of the title to the edge of the "U", and then down through part of the "U" and back into the bottom of the "O". There was a 4" tear near the center of the top border that went down into the brim of Neal's hat. There were pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges, mostly in the blank borders, but extending into the edges of the image in several places. There was paper loss in the bottom right corner that included the litho number, but not the black background by it. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was really nicely backed, and the restorer recreated the missing NSS number at lower right. From close up, you can see signs of restoration, but it displays well from any reasonable viewing distance. Learn More about condition grades
