An Original Vintage Theatrical Tri-Folded English Forty by Sixty Stage Play Poster (40x60; measures 40" x 60") (Learn More) Dick Whittington, the circa 1930s English stage play production. This poster features really cool artwork of a gaily dressed girl and a happy smiling black cat! A collector from England tells us he believes that this poster (and the other English stage play posters from other classic fairy tales) were used for local Christmas pantomimes (that were very professional productions) that were held all over England for many years. Most of the posters were produced by Taylors of Wombwell from 1929 to the late 1930s (but it seems likely that the posters we are auctioning date from the late 1930s). It was quite common in those pantomimes for women to play boys' roles, and for men to play the roles of unlikeable women (like witches and mean old ladies!). Important Added Info: This 40x60 was tri-folded only (which means there is one less vertical machine fold than usual). This means the poster has a significantly lesser number of folds than with 40x60s folded in the "regular" way, which is nice! This tri-folded 40x60 needs to be sent in an oversized flat package, which measures roughly 13" x 32", so they cost more to send than regularly folded 40x60s, especially if they are sent to non-U.S. addresses.
