An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded English Three-Sheet Movie Poster (measures approximately 41" x 85") (Learn More) Stolen Moments, the 1920 James Vincent silent romantic blackmail crime melodrama ("Written by H. Thompson Rich") starring Marguerite Namara, Rudolph Valentino (billed as "Rudolf Valentine"), Albert L. Barrett, Henrietta Simpson, Arthur Earle, and Aileen Pringle. In this movie, Valentino plays a real cad! He is a Brazilian visiting the deep south where he romances a woman and she breaks her engagement and goes to South America with him, only to discover he has no intention of marrying her. She returns home, and later he turns up, trying to blackmail her, and he is killed, and suspicion falls on the woman, but it turns out he was killed by the brother of a different woman he jilted. Note that when this movie was released in 1920, Marguerite Namara was the star of this movie, and Valentino was not well known (and he was billed as "Rudolf Valentine"!). But the following year, he had a part in "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse", in which he was not prominently billed, but that role made him a major star, which quickly led to several other movies, including "The Sheik", also in 1921. At that point (late 1921 or early 1922), this movie was re-released, and Valentino was now top billed (as "Rodolph Valentino", as he was billed in some 1922 movies), and poor Maguerite Namara was no longer billed at all! Movie paper from this title has always been incredibly rare. Prior to 2018, the only poster that we had auctioned was an English three-sheet, from the early re-release described above. In 2018, we auctioned a title card from the U.S. re-release described above (which is the only U.S. paper we have auctioned). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have seen a linenbacked example of this poster that has been sold as a 1920s U.S. re-release, but we believe it is far more likely the poster is an English three-sheet (based on the size of the poster and the paper quality, both of which differ from U.S. posters of this period). We don't know if it is a re-release, and it seems that it certainly could be from the first English release. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. This English three-sheet was printed in 3 sections. Condition: good. There is a thin strip of paper loss in the left end of the middle foldline, and a circular area of paper loss in the border below it. The poster is extremely fragile, and has almost completely separated on some of the foldlines. There are many small tears and tiny areas of paper loss in parts of the edges of the borders. But the image area of the poster IS largely "all there", and once it is linenbacked, it will look great! But the poster is in urgent need of professional restoration! This poster has some significant imperfections. We may have written a few words about those imperfections, but we may not have, as you can likely see them by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster. It DOES have clear defects, which are likely to be very noticeable in our "large" or "super-sized" images that you can click on from our small image at right (if the item has significant defects that are difficult to see in our image, then we try to describe those in words elsewhere within the auction). Note that some of these posters have tape repairs on the back, and we note more significant repairs, but we do not note just a few small pieces of tape on the back of a poster. PLEASE DO NOT USE WISHFUL THINKING WHEN LOOKING AT THE CONDITION OF THIS POSTER! It DOES have significant defects, and they may be such that you would not be happy with this item. We know that some collectors could accept this item's defects, and display it as is, and we also know that many collectors would only be happy with this poster if they had it restored, so please do not bid on it unless you feel sure you can accept it as it is, or are willing to pay to have it properly restored. Of course, you should realize that if you do not bid on this poster because of its condition defects, it may be quite some time before you see this poster offered again!
