An Original 1947 (from the first release of this movie in France) Vintage Theatrical Folded French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 46 1/4" x 62 1/2" [117 x 159 cm]) (Learn More) Song of the Open Road, the 1944 S. Sylvan Simon United Artists all-star musical comedy ("She stole my Radio Show... She stole My Heart... But She's still Tops with me in the Season's Top Musical Hit...!"; other studios had been making all-star musical comedies to raise morale during World War II, and United Artists wanted to do its part, but in order to have a credible lineup, they had to "cheap" a little and use some stars from other studios, and also use some not quite "first rank" stars like Regis Toomey; sorry, Regis!) starring Edgar Bergen & Charlie McCarthy, Bonita Granville, W.C. Fields, Peggy O'Neill, Jackie Moran, Bill Christy, Reginald Denny, Regis Toomey, Rose Hobart, Pat Starling, Sammy Kaye and His Orchestra, and Jane Powell (billed as "Introducing Jane Powell"; she was only 14 years-old at the time; she had been singing coloratura soprano on the radio, and was given a chance to be in this movie; I bet no one would have guessed she would go on to be a major musical star of the 1950s!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Rolttie Blot (spelling?) Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this French one-panel, which has completely different Rolttie Blot (spelling?) art that ignores the top comedians, and focuses on wonderful deco art of singer Jane Powell and the music in the movie! Also note that French posters from the first few years after World War II are among the most rare posters there are! Apparently, there were still major paper shortages in France, and few posters were printed, and most were recycled. Condition: good to very good. There is a foreign stamp in two corners, plus ink transfer from one of the stamps in the other two corners. Learn More about condition grades
