An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Standee (measures 14 1/2" x 19 1/2" [37 x 50 cm]) (Learn More) Lawrence of Arabia, the classic 1962 (wide release in the U.S. in 1963) David Lean (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) English/U.S. World War I (WWI) desert adventure thriller ("Stands Alone!"; "Unanimously acclaimed as 'One of the all time greatest films!'"; "Best Picture of the Year!"; "Winner of 7 Academy Awards!"; "The motion picture that made great international stars of Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif"; "After five years... The first motion picture from the creators of 'The Bridge On The River Kwai.'"; "A mighty spectacle of action and adventure!"; produced by Sam Spiegel and David Lean; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Alec Guinness, Anthony Quinn, Jack Hawkins, Jose Ferrer, Anthony Quayle, Claude Rains, Arthur Kennedy, Omar Sharif (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; "as 'Ali'"), Peter O'Toole (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as T.E. Lawrence; billed as "introducing Peter O'Toole as Lawrence"; which is odd, because he had small parts in several movies prior to this one!), and Zia Mohyeddin NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this standee! We know it was a standee, because while it does not have a standee backing on the back, it has discoloration on the back that shows that it definitely did have a standee backing there at one time. Our best guess is that this was something that was displayed in theater lobbies, where people could purchase these color prints, so that they could have "vivid memories" of the movie, but that is only a guess (and it might have been something sent to theater owners). In any event, it is certainly incredibly rare and would seem to surely be from the initial widescreen release of this classic movie. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: very good. The standee backing is no longer present. There are tiny stains in the top left of the front, under the "W" of "LAWRENCE" and some small stains in the lower left border, and slightly in the other three borders. There is a paper snipe added under the words "COLOR PRINTS" that says "FOR 'VIVID' MEMORIES", and we don't know what was printed under that, although we can see the word "BY" under the "C" of "COLOR", so it probably credited a photography studio, but that is just a guess.
