A Vintage English Hardcover Book (measures 8 3/4" x 11 1/4" [22 x 29 cm]; 207 pages) (Learn More) Daily Express Film Book, the 1935 English movie book featuring information on and hundreds of black and white and full color images of many movie stars of that era including Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, James Cagney, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, and many more! This is one of many similar hardcover books that were published in England in the late 1920s and early 1930s, and each is a wonderful treasure trove for film buffs, not only for the great portraits of stars, but also for the many articles about stars and then-current movies, which often contains information found nowhere else. Note that this particular volume contains several color portraits scattered throughout, and has a really cool 5-page article entitled "How the Silly Symphonies Are Made", with a great full-page portrait of Walt Disney, and many images from the Silly Symphonies cartoons, including three with the really early version of Donald Duck. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a remarkable collection of over 50 similar English hardcover books we are auctioning (in separate auctions) that date from the 1930s to 1950s. They were published annually in England by several different movie magazine companies, and each volume was filled with full-page images of then very popular movie stars, often with mini biographies of each. There would also be a few articles. Each book gives a huge amount of value, and if one chose, the individual pages could be removed and framed (or sold individually)! Also note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads. Condition: good to very good.
