An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Beyond the Rocks, the 1922 Sam Wood silent romantic love triangle melodrama (based on the novel by Elinor Glyn; a wild story of a poor English girl who marries a wealthy elderly man to help her father, but while mountain climbing, she is rescued by a dashing young man who she immediately falls in love with, but he doesn't want to break up her marriage, so he leaves; later, they meet by chance, and realize they are still in love, but she writes a letter to him saying how much she loves him but that they can't be together, and a former girlfriend of her young lover intercepts the letter and sends it to her husband instead; but the husband realizes that he doesn't want to stand in their way, so he goes exploring in Arabia, and is fatally wounded, and before he dies, he gives his blessing to his wife and her boyfriend!) starring Gloria Swanson, Rudolph Valentino (billed as "Rodolph Valentino"), Edythe Chapman, Alec B. Francis, and Robert Bolder. Note that this was Valentino's second movie after "The Sheik", and it was released just six months later, so it was likely in production when "The Sheik" was being made. Consequently, he was second billed on the posters ("with Rodolph Valentino"), and he was still billed under his real name of "Rodolph", and he wasn't even mentioned on the title card. Just a few months later, he became the number one male star, fully on par with Swanson! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that there are white areas in the corners that look like they COULD be a defect of some sort, but they are NOT. They exist on stills from silent films that have this sort of black border around the edges. It appears that stills of this sort were made by actually blowing up a frame of film, and perhaps those white areas are some sort of sprocket holes. In any event, they are contained within the printing and are not any sort of defect! Condition: very good. There are a few minor defects around the edges, but the still is overall in nice condition!
