Cobb's Judge Priest, the 1934 John Ford Kentucky country homespun small town political comedy ("Enough laughs to make your head spin!"; "Enough laughs for every day of the year"; "You can judge for yourself - but Will Rogers says 'Judge Priest' is my best!"; about a small town judge named Billy Priest, based on the character created by Irvin S. Cobb,) starring Will Rogers (in the title role), Tom Brown, Anita Louise, Henry B. Walthall, Rochelle Hudson, Stepin Fetchit, and Hattie McDaniel NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this three-sheet measures 40" x 79 1/4" [102 x 201 cm], but it has not been trimmed. Note that Will Rogers was the foremost movie star for Fox Pictures in the early 1930s, and was at the height of his career when he was killed in a plane crash in 1935. Fox had just merged with Twentieth Century Pictures to form 20th Century Fox (Rogers had made one movie for the combined company), and immediately after his death, and for the year after, 20th Century Fox re-issued all of his sound movies. This poster is from the 1937 re-release of Rogers' 1934 "Judge Priest". What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at some crossfolds and some tears and tiny paper loss on parts of some foldlines. There were some creases, smudges, and a few faint stains scattered in the poster, with some pinholes around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and a talented restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster). The poster was backed onto a thin linen with no excess around the edges. Learn More about condition grades
