An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Australian Daybill Movie Poster (measures approximately 13" x 30") (Learn More) Casablanca, the classic 1942 Michael Curtiz (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) anti-Nazi World War II (WWII) romantic love triangle melodrama ("From a play by Murray Burnett and June Alison"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; it is interesting to note that the movie was made while World War II was being fought, and at a point when it seemed very real that Germany might take over the entire world, and in that context, the strong emotions expressed throughout the movie are all the more poignant, given what was going on in the world at that time) starring Humphrey Bogart (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as "Rick", Richard Blaine), Ingrid Bergman (as Ilsa Lund), Paul Henreid (as Victor Laszlo), Claude Rains (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Captain Renault), Conrad Veidt (as Major Strasser), Sydney Greenstreet (as Signor Ferrari), Peter Lorre (as Ugarte), S.Z. Sakall (as Carl), Dooley Wilson (as Sam), Madeleine LeBeau (as Yvonne), Leonid Kinskey (as Sascha), John Qualen (as Berger), Marcel Dalio (as Emil, the croupier at the roulette wheel), Corinna Mura (as the cabaret singer who plays the guitar and sings "La Marseillaise"), Helmut Dantine (as the young man playing roulette), and Joy Page (as Dantine's girlfriend, who is willing to sleep with Rains) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this Australian daybill has an image very similar to that of the U.S. three-sheet, except far more colorful. It has a far superior image to that of the U.S. one-sheet, and it is surely one of the very best photographic original release posters created for this classic movie. Note that I wrote the condition description for this poster while it was at the restorer having the paper snipe removed and the small paper loss repaired. I was kind of overwhelmed with all the condition descriptions I was doing, and I went on memory as to what the poster said under the snipe (I had seen what it said by holding the poster up to the light), and I mistakenly thought it had said "Suitable For General Exhibition", when actually it had said, "Not Suitable For General Exhibition". Therefore, my comment about why the added snipe was wrong. It is more likely that the poster was used in another country (perhaps New Zealand), where they did not use the "Not Suitable For General Exhibition" terminology. This is a minor error, but I just want to set the record straight! Also note that for time before the auction started, when I had an image of the poster in my website online gallery, I did not have the linenbacked poster to illustrate (because it was at the linenbacker), so I used a different image on my website. The image on this auction (which is also now on my website) is that of the actual poster which the high bidder on this auction will receive. Condition: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss in the left of the bottom foldline. There was a snipe in the lower left of the poster (almost completely in the white background area, but covering the left of the water image at bottom) that said "FOR MATURE AUDIENCES". This was placed over the original "SUITABLE FOR GENERAL EXHIBITION" ratings area (I guess a specific theater did not feel this movie was "suitable" for everyone!). The snipe was removed, the tiny paper loss was repaired, and the poster (which was otherwise in quite nice condition) was linenbacked, and it now looks great! Learn More about condition grades
