Date Sold 12/22/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Silver Spurs, the 1936 Ray Taylor cowboy western ("Story by Charles Alden Seltzer") starring Buck Jones, Muriel Evans, Bruce Lane, George French, William Lawrence, Robert Frazer, J.P. McGowan, George 'Gabby' Hayes, and Silver. Note that Buck Jones' white horse was named Silver (just like The Lone Ranger's later on!), and Silver made 73 movies with Buck Jones from 1922 until Jones' death in 1942 in the tragic Cocoanut Grove fire. But oddly, Silver was almost never billed on the posters for Buck Jones' movies as so many other famous horses (most especially Tom Mix's Tony) were! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this one-sheet, and those were 21 and 22 years ago, and they sold for $1,092 and $1,380! If the image looks extremely familiar to you, it is almost surely because this was one of the posters used for the Portal Publications reproductions of the 1960s on, but the poster offered here is the rare original one-sheet from 1936! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had small paper loss at the middle crossfold and tiny paper loss at the other two crossfolds. It had a scratch mark going into the "S" of "SILVER" in the title and a small one near the top of the "S". It had some pretty minor border wear. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but sadly, it was damaged after it was backed, and there are now three 3" creases in the lower right (in the bottom of the last "S" of "SPURS" and two below that), and those creases are in the poster and in the backing. I know that this damage can be reversed, either through pressing the poster in a heat press, or by re-backing the poster. Since this is a rare and desirable poster, it is surely worth the cost of that restoration, but bear this in mind before bidding on the poster. Learn More about condition grades
