Artist: Eduardo Munoz Bachs Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Cuban poster! All early Castro-era Cuban posters are incredibly rare, because it appears that after the revolution in 1959, such items were mostly all destroyed by the end of the 1960s. There are very few first release Cuban movie posters of any kind from the 1960s and earlier. We are currently auctioning 16 first release 1960s Cuban posters in 16 separate auctions. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one or several of these, and it may be years before a similar offering occurs! Also, note that silkscreen (also known as screen printing) is a printing technique whereby a mesh is used to transfer ink onto a poster. Only one color is printed at a time, so several screens must be used to produce a multicolored design, and it is a laborious technique because it is traditionally all done by hand. Because of the rich thickness of the layer of color on the paper and the resulting depth and brilliance achieved through silkscreen printing, this technique was preferred by many artists throughout many cultures and periods. Condition: good. The poster has smudges, scuffs and ratings stamp scattered in various areas and some spotty discoloration in a few areas, but there is a larger patch of discoloration, deterioration and paper loss at upper left (see our image). There is a 2 1/2" tear at lower left that has been repaired with tape from the back. Despite its defects one could choose to display this rare poster as is, or after proper restoration the poster will display well, but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
