An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Big Swim, the 1926 Charles R. Bowers & Bud Fisher silent animated animation cartoon comedy short ("Ooh!! Look Mutt!! Look a shark!!"; " Nonsense, Jeff! There aren't any sharks in these waters!"; "New series"; written by Bud Fisher who created the comic strip "Mutt and Jeff"). Note that Mutt and Jeff (a pair of loser best friends, one tall and one short) was one of the most popular newspaper cartoon strips ever, beginning in 1908, and they were brought to the movies in 1911, and over the next 15 years, Bud Fisher created an astonishing 347 cartoons starring the duo. Note that Bud Fisher was one of the rare successful creators who was also an excellent business man, and he gained control of the newspaper strip, and when the first cartoons were adapted in 1911, he retained sole ownership of those as well, and his various enterprises made him an extremely wealthy man! If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Half a century before Jaws, people were already scared and fascinated by sharks, and the fear that any time you might go swimming, you might have a tragic encounter with one of these awesome sea creatures. This great one-sheet, which we have never auctioned before, has wonderful art of Mutt and Jeff in the ocean with a shark chasing them! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had small tears and tiny paper loss scattered on parts of most folds, and someone put small pieces of tape on the back of those areas. There were also two small areas of paper loss in the background in the middle, below the word balloon on the left, and those had tape on the back. There were pinholes around the edges and those had tape on the back. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. A really talented restorer did a wonderful job backing and restoring the poster, and it displays wonderfully, and I can't imagine a collector who would not be happy to have this wonderful poster on the wall!
