An Unfolded Austrian Special Poster (measures 23 1/2" x 33" [60 x 84 cm]) (Learn More)

AIDS geht Uns Alle An (literally translates to "AIDS Affects Us All"), the 1990s Austrian poster created to educate people about the consequences of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) which causes AIDS (Acquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome) and how to protect themselves from the disease. Note that when AIDS gripped the world in 1981, local authorities, healthcare providers and governments quickly created health posters as a way to inform people about the new disease. These public health campaigns continued for over 20 years and still endure in some parts of the world today. The posters show the different tactics, images (some quite provocative) and messages used by various countries and health agencies in their attempts to educate people about the AIDS/HIV threat. In 2017, nearly 160 000 people were newly diagnosed with HIV in the WHO European Region, marking another year of alarming HIV numbers in the Region. However, the pace of increase is slowing compared to previous years. Continuing a trend that has persisted for the last decade, the majority (82%; over 130 000) of people newly diagnosed in 2017 were from the eastern part of the Region - the highest number ever. Of the remaining diagnoses, 14% were reported from the western part and 4% from the central part. At the same time, countries in the European Union and European Economic Area (EU/EEA) reported a decline in rates of new diagnoses, mainly driven by a 20% decrease since 2015 among men who have sex with men.
