An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Chapter #6 (Daylight Doom) One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Jungle Mystery, the 1932 Ray Taylor Africa jungle adventure serial ("Based on 'Ivory Trail' by Talbot Mundy"; about two hunters in Africa searching for elephant ivory, and they have competition, and they also meet a man and his daughter who are looking for the girl's brother) starring Tom Tyler, Noah Beery Jr., William Desmond, Cecilia Parker, Philo McCullough, Carmelita Geraghty, and Jack Leonard (as the man in the gorilla suit). Note that Jack Leonard was one of the first men to play gorillas in movies. He was an extra in Tarzan the Ape Man, and the director did not like the way the men in ape suits were performing, and Jack Leonard said he could do better, and he was given the part! He and his wife made his gorilla suit and he studied real life gorillas to see how they moved and the sounds they made. He appeared in a dozen movies between 1932 and 1940, nine times of them as an ape! We don't know what happened to him after that (perhaps he passed away). If anyone knows more about Jack Leonard, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that Ray 'Crash' Corrigan and Charles Gemora were two actors who played lots of gorillas in movies in the 1930s and 1940s. Emil Van Horn and Jack Leonard each played around a dozen gorillas, and interestingly, that was all they did (no doubt all four of them owned a gorilla suit!). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this film was made during the time when Universal was using Adventure Pictures as the production company for its serials. There are many such Universal/Adventure Pictures serials from 1925 to 1932. A collector tells us that Adventure Pictures was a wholly owned subsidiary that Universal used to distance themselves from the increasingly low-brow serials, and their desire to be viewed as a more high-end producer of features. Condition: good. There are some creases scattered throughout the poster and there is tattering along the foldlines and edges with some repaired with tape from the back.
