An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) The Desert Hawk, the 1944 B. Reeves Eason Arabian desert adventure serial ("A Columbia Chapter Play"; "Flashing cutlasses doom the enemies of the hawk!"; "The Hawk dare all in a battle to the finish on the desert!"; "Cheer the hero of 1000 desert adventures!"; "More serial excitement than you ever dreamed of!"; "The Hawk wins out in a daring, death-defying ruse!"; "Screen Play by Sherman Lowe, Leslie Swabacker, Jack Stanley and Leighton Brill") starring Gilbert Roland, Mona Maris, Egon Brecher, I. Stanford Jolley, Frank Lackteen, and Kermit Maynard. Note that James Ellison was supposed to star in this serial, and posters were printed with him as the star, but shortly before filming began, he was replaced by Gilbert Roland. While some posters with Ellison credited (mainly three-sheet and six-sheet posters) had already been sent to theaters, all remaining posters which had already been printed had a snipe added that covered the Ellison credit with Roland's, and existing pressbooks were destroyed. We have only seen a single three-sheet poster with Ellison billed, and two chapter 1 one-sheet which were sniped. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Glenn Cravath Important Added Info: Note that James Ellison did not star in this movie, but this three-sheet bills him and does NOT have a snipe (read the Film Description for more information). In the past, we've only had a single one-sheet poster (which was sniped), and this un-sniped poster is quite rare! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tears and tiny paper loss on parts of many folds (fortunately, very little in the artwork images of the stars at the top of the poster). It had some pinholes and small pieces of paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
