An Original 1928 (from the first release of this movie in Sweden) Vintage Theatrical Folded Swedish Movie Poster (measures 27 1/2" x 39 1/2" [70 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) Sorrell and Son, the 1927 Herbert Brenon (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) English father-son family relationship silent melodrama ("A great book now a greater picture"; based on the novel "by Warwick Deeping"; a supremely depressing story of a World War I hero who returns to find his wife is having an affair, and she runs off, leaving him with their young son, and the only job he can get is as a hotel porter; he raises his son well, and the son becomes a surgeon, and his father gets an incurable disease, and because he can't bear to watch his father suffer, the son performs a "mercy killing" on his father) starring H.B. Warner (in the title role; "As Sorrell... A failure in life but a success as a father"), Anna Q. Nilsson ("As Dora Sorrell"), Alice Joyce ("As Fanny Garland"), Nils Asther ("As Kit Sorrell"), Carmel Myers ("As Florence Palfrey"), Norman Trevor ("As Thomas Roland"), Louis Wolheim ("As Sergeant Buck"), Mickey McBan (in the title role; "As the boy"), and Mary Nolan ("As Molly Roland"). Note that the "mercy killing" aspect of this movie was very controversial when the movie first came out, and over 80 years later, the exact same movie plot would be just as controversial! Also note that seven years after this movie was made, it was re-made as a "talkie", with H.B. Warner again playing the lead role. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! Note also that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The poster has darkening, creases and tears of varying lengths around the edges (mostly repaired with tape from the back) and there is a tear in the center of the lower horizontal fold (also repaired with tape from the back). Some of the tape slightly bleeds through to the front. After linenbacking the very rare poster should display well. Learn More about condition grades
