Date Sold 12/6/2015Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Frank Borzage's Street Angel, the 1928 Frank Borzage romantic melodrama ("A Neapolitan Love Lyric"; "From the play by Monckton Hoffe"; "They're coming! They're coming!"; "William Fox presents America's beloved sweethearts in the screen's greatest love story"; after their great success in "Seventh Heaven", Gaynor and Farrell were reunited in this movie, which has Gaynor posing as the Madonna for painter Farrell, and she is falsely arrested, which sends him in downward spiral, but after she is released from jail, she seeks him out and she helps him find his way back, and they fall in love; the movie was heavily inspired by the major German successes of that time, such as "Sunrise") starring Janet Gaynor (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film and two others; this was the first year Academy Awards were given!), Charles Farrell (Gaynor and Farrell are billed as "in the greatest roles of their meteoric careers"), Alberto Rabagliati, Cino Conti, Guido Trento, and Dave Kashner (as the Strong Man). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this rare half-sheet was made at a time when William Fox was creating some lobby cards and half-sheets on a linen-like paper (like what Warner Bros. would do a decade later), and also, many movies would have a half-sheet that had a traditional poster image, and another half-sheet that had an image of a lobby card, only four times bigger! We are offering one of each kind of half-sheet from this historic movie in two separate auctions. Prior to this, we had NEVER auctioned a half-sheet from this movie before! A talented restorer gel backed the poster (meaning they backed the poster onto a gel material) and they then performed excellent restoration to the defects described below, and then removed the gel backing, so that the poster still exactly looks and feels like an original poster (and it is!), with no backing at all. The restoration was done really well, and the poster displays really well! Condition: good to very good. The poster was gel backed (see above). This particular poster was never folded. It had paper loss in the top left and top right corners, slightly extending into the edge of the image in the top right corner, affecting the tip of one of the paint brushes. There were small areas of paper loss and some tears scattered in the rest of the borders. There was a scuff mark on Gaynor's nose and in her chin just below her mouth, with a tiny tear in her forehead. There were two scuff marks in Farrell's cheek. The poster was gel backed by a talented professional and expert restoration was performed to the above defects. The poster looks fantastic, and it has had truly minor touch up, and best of all, it still completely looks and feels like an unrestored poster! Learn More about condition grades
