Originally created to help war veterans and victims of agricultural calamities, the lottery was replaced by a new lottery organized by Francaise des Jeux in 1976 Artist: Piem Important Added Info: Note that someone took this group of four posters and linenbacked them together onto a single piece of linen (see our image). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Someone had the idea of linenbacking all four of these posters together by placing them side by side and on top of each other, and it does look nice! The poster at top right was folded across the middle and the others were unfolded, but had a few creases and scuffs scattered in them. Someone put tiny pencil numbers near the center of the combined display, no doubt to let the linenbacker know how the four posters should be placed (see our image). Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the posters "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
