An Original Vintage 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Still (Learn More) Max Schmeling was a German boxer who was heavyweight champion of the world between 1930 and 1932. His two fights with Joe Louis in 1936 and 1938 were worldwide cultural events because of their national associations. During World War II (WWII), Schmeling served with the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) as an elite paratrooper. After the war, Schmeling mounted a comeback, but retired permanently in 1948. Schmeling passed away in 2005 at the age of 99 Important Added Info: Note that this still is from the 1936 movie "Schmeling-Louis", which showed their famous fight in Yankee Stadium, where Joe Louis lost to Max Schmeling. Condition: good. There are a few faint vertical scuffs running down the center of the image, but they are mostly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light. There are some tiny dots paint stains scattered throughout the image, but they are not very distracting. There are pinholes, tiny stains, and faint smudges around the edges of the still.
