An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 47 1/4" x 63") (Learn More) Le Juif errant (literally translates to "The Wandering Jew"), the 1926 Luitz-Morat French adventure melodrama (based on the novel by Eugene Sue; an epic story that has a framing device of "The Wandering Jew" and his sister, both of whom are condemned to roam the Earth until a vast treasure is claimed by descendants of the people who put it together; all of the descendants have been told to meet in a certain city, where they will receive their share of the treasure, and many of them do not know at all of the treasure, but they go anyway; compounding the problem is that there is a group of Jesuits who want to claim the fortune for themselves, and the only way to do this is to kill all of the descendants, which they do one by one, and at the end there is one Jesuit left who claims the fortune, but The Wandering Jew shows up to tell him that he is not entitled to it and he makes sure he doesn't get it!) starring Gabriel Gabrio, Claude Merelle, Maurice Schutz, Andre Marnay, Jeanne Helbling, Cande, Fournez-Goffard, Silvio De Pedrelli, Mailly, Suzanne Demas, Simone Mareuil, Jean Peyriere, Charlotte Barbier Krauss, Jean Devalde, and Garcia Dova. Note that this was an epic five hour silent black and white movie! Perhaps because of the coming of sound, the movie was soon forgotten (similar to Abel Gance's Napoleon), and it is completely forgotten today! The story is incredibly complex, and borrows from The Count of Monte Cristo, and The Wandering Jew is apparently a parable for the cholera epidemic that swept Europe, killing everyone in its path. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
