Jofroi, the 1933 (released in the U.S. in 1950) Marcel Pagnol French suicide black comedy (based on the novel by Jean Giono; about a farmer who sells his orchard to another farmer; the new owner starts removing unproductive trees, but the previous owner opposes him and then threatens to commit suicide to portray the new owner as cruel!) starring Vincent Scotto (in the title role as Jofroi), Annie Toinon (billed as "Toinon"), Tyrand (billed as "Tirand"), Andre Robert, Odette Roger, and Henri Poupon. Note that Marcel Pagnol is justifiably very famous in his native France and throughout the world, but this movie is known only to extreme film buffs, likely due to the very dark nature of its comedy!
