Date Sold 12/29/2011Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 3 Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More) Roaring Frontiers, the 1941 Lambert Hillyer cowboy western musical ("Two famous stars in a song-studded drama of the West!") starring William 'Wild Bill' Elliott (as Wild Bill Hickok), Tex Ritter, Ruth Ford, Frank Mitchell, Bradley Page, Tristram Coffin, Hal Taliaferro, Francis Walker, and Sammy Stein. Note that Sammy Stein was a professional football player in the NFL, playing there between 1929 and 1932. He then became a professional wrestler, and he then became a movie actor, appearing in 58 movies, almost always playing a bad guy, often a crook or an outlaw cowboy (likely one of the very few Jewish cowboys ever!). Finally, note that in 1938, Bill Elliot was cast as the title character in the serial The Great Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok. The serial was such a success, that Elliot portrayed Hickok in 12 other films, and even when he was not playing Hickok, his characters were often called "Wild Bill" (such as Wild Bill Saunders & Wild Bill Boone). Eventually, Elliot became so associated with "Wild Bill", that he was cast as a character named "Wild Bill Elliott" in the 1943 film Calling Wild Bill Elliott. In all, he essentially played a character of himself in over 30 films, often with both his credit and role listed as "Wild Bill Elliott"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: fair to good. There is uneven discoloration and staining throughout the stills and there are several pairs of staple holes around the edges with some torn from rough removal.
