An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Susan Lenox (Her Fall and Rise), the 1931 Robert Z. Leonard romantic melodrama ("From the book by David Graham Phillips"; about an orphan girl who grows up and is abused by relatives and many men; there is one good man who wanders in and out of her life, but when she sinks lower and lower, he gives up on her and becomes a drunk; later, she rises in life and is the mistress to a millionaire, and she tries to help her old friend, but he rejects the help, and finally, at the end of the movie, they have a reconciliation) starring Greta Garbo (in the title role as Susan Lenox), Clark Gable, Jean Hersholt, John Miljan, and Alan Hale Sr. Note that this is the only movie that Garbo and Gable made together! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this window card, and that was 8 years ago! Posters from this movie are beyond rare. That window card we auctioned eight years ago was the only poster from this movie we have ever auctioned! Also note that the card measures very slightly under 14" x 22" (an extremely tiny amount in each direction!) and has no left or right blank borders, but it has NOT been trimmed (this was done at a time when MGM was experimenting with having as few borders as possible). Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a heavy paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the window card had been trimmed by 2" on the left border 6" in the top border. This affected the left of Garbo's hair in teh left image and the letters straight above it, and a tiny bit of the top of the letters of "GARBO" at top. The rest of the card was not affected by the trimming. The card also had smudges, scuffs, and small surface paper loss scattered throughout, with a 3" tear in the right of the bottom border and a few smudges and small stains scattered throughout. Overall, the window card was in fair condition prior to paperbacking. A really talented restorer did an excellent job of recreating the missing areas, and the card now displays pretty well, but bear the above in mind before bidding on it.
