An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More)

Repentance, the 1916 E.H. Calvert silent India romantic religious melodrama (a cool story of a very religious man who loves a woman who does not believe in God; that tears him apart, and he becomes a missionary to India, where he helps the sick during an epidemic; meanwhile back home, his girlfriend helps nurse his mother who has become very sick, and that rekindles her religious faith, and when he returns home, after becoming very sick himself, they no longer have an obstacle to their love!) starring Anne Leigh, and John Lorenz. Note that the only poster we have seen from this movie shows what looks like an African native giving water to a bearded white man, and we have seen a screen shot of the two from the actual film. But the plot summary of the movie we give above (taken from a contemporary magazine) clearly indicates that he was in India! We wonder if those involved thought that natives of India looked very much like natives of Africa? It certainly could have been true in 1916!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had its borders trimmed off and had many tears and areas of paper loss along the foldlines, and some scattered in the rest of the poster. It also had some stains scattered in parts of the poster, more so around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. Some restorer did the best he could, given the poster's many defects, recreating the missing blank borders, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
