One would have thought that Joan Fontaine, being the talented and beautiful sister of established star Olivia De Havilland, would have quickly achieved fame herself. However, she came to Hollywood in 1934, and only appeared in one movie in 1935. It was two years later, after she changed her name to Joan Fontaine, that she started appearing in lots of movies, but it was not until 1940's "Rebecca" (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film) and 1941's "Suspicion" (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film) that she became a major star! As noted above, she was the sister of Olivia De Havilland, and they had a decades-long feud (sadly, there is no longer any hope of a reconciliation, because Ms. Fontaine passed away in 2013 at the age of 96). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: This card has been personally autographed (signed) by Joan Fontaine. Note that what is really cool about this card is that it is pre-printed, and not only does she stress that she will only sign a photo for $1.50, but she also insists on "no checks please". What makes this especially funny is that we have (in a separate auction) a signed letter from Olivia De Havilland to her manager complaining about $55 she feels she was overcharged for taking care of all her fan mail. Apparently those sisters had quite a thing about postage costs! Note that our consignor purchased a collection of autographed items that were collected by Leonard Sorgi, who was a unit manager for ABC for shows like The Soupy Sales Show, The Jerry Mahony Show, and many others. He was also Unit Manager for the Academy Awards for a number of years, and during his long and varied career, he met many celebrities and obtained autographs from them in person (often personalized to him). Our consignor (and we) feel certain that the autograph on this card is authentic! We have provided an image of each side of the card. The card could be matted with a vintage or repro still and framed together to make a cool display! Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
